Under 10s

IMPORTANT FESTIVAL INFORMATION FOR ALL UNDER 10S....please read

Hi All

Firstly apologies for the delay. We are continuing to cope with what seem to be daily changes.

We are very much looking forward to hosting you and your teams at Keynsham RFC for this year's U10's Somerset Countywide Festival this coming Sunday, 20th March.
A quick email to highlight a few bits of info for your guidance.

Gates to the club will open at 9am, parking will be marshalled and there will be a £3 per vehicle charge. Please ensure this communicated to your parents, it saves us time getting people into the ground.

I have attached registration forms, please pre-fill these and email directly to U10's Team Manager - Nick Falconer whose email address is nick.falconer@hpe.com asap. You will also need to register your team's arrival in the club house between 9.15am and 9.45am on the day.

There will be a coaches/referees briefing at 10am on the pitch designated as pitch A. As usual at festivals we will be asking for a referee to be available from each team. We will be playing to the 'NROP' for under 10's effective from 01/08/2015 which are available to view on the RFU website which is www.englandrugby.com

The games will begin quickly after the briefing if we can, with an official start time of 10.30am.

As things stand there will be four groups, Group A, B, C ,D. The festival will run with each team playing each other in their respective group, with the games being a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 minutes (no half time). There will be a Cup winner, Cup runner up, Plate winner and Plate runner up. Full details of which will be distributed at registration.

The four pitches in use are directly behind the 1st XV pitch and the main parking field as you look toward the bypass with the club house behind you. This will be marked by flags.

We are also hosting the U11's festival again this year so there will be other teams on site as well.

Hope that's enough info for everybody for now, the Group draw and a programme will be available on the day, as will teas, coffees, bar, bacon rolls, cheesy chips and barbecue weather allowing.

There will also be a cake sale!!

Give me a shout with any queries. For now, from myself and the club, I hope you, your fellow coaches, parents and most importantly all of your players have a great day on Sunday.

Kind regards,
Richard Seward – KRFC Minis Chairman
& Nick Falconer – Manager - Assistant Coach U10

TOR U10S 15th November

Tor U10’s
It was very pleasing to see Tor U10’s highest turn out of the season with 10 players making the trip to Bridgwater.
Two very physical matches between both teams saw a great performance by Tor.  Although Tor lost both matches they can hold their heads high by knowing they each contributed to great flowing rugby.
Tor had been working on their rucking skills recently and it was rewarding to see great rucking play by the Tor side in particular Isabelle and Harry who took it in turns to clear out the opposition during the rucks allowing Freddie, Jack and Joe to make their strong runs into the opposition half.  One of these plays almost resulted in a great team try, only for good defending by Bridgwater which prevented Jack from scoring another of his tries in the corner.   These great runs combined with Olivia and Ellie taking turns running at the opposition with the ball saw Tor gain good ground on the opposition.
Along with good attacking play Tor showed great defending skills.  Archie as always was strong in defence making good tackles, supported by Charlie and on his debut Samuel who between them held a very strong back line.
Eventually the mud and physical tackling, rucking game saw Tor tire a little and with this Bridgwater were able to run in a few good tries.  However despite the two defeats Tor guest coach Rob along with David were both very proud with the way the team played as one.

TOR U10S vs Wells 25th OCT 2015

A great team performance by Tor U10’s saw their first win of the season in only their second match.

Recognition must be given to Wells who kindly loaned Tor a couple of Players for the duration of both matches, due to a number of Tor payers being away for Half Term week.
This gesture from Wells resulted in two very good and entertaining matches played out between both teams.

Great personal performances by Olivia, Ellie, Jack, Archie, Rubun, and Joe saw Tor score 4 tries in their opening match.  Tor’s second try was as a result of practice and training paying off as good processional play, lay off and passing from all the team saw Joe eventually break away to score a great try in the corner.  The match was very close through-out with great tackling from both teams in particular Archie for Tor preventing tries being scored,  until eventually with the scores at 3 tries to 1.  Jack broke away and ran over half the length of the pitch to score another great score for Tor and win the game.

The second match saw Tor build on the success of their first, with great play from Ellie, Olivia, Rubun , Joe and Archie setting up Jack for one of his sprints into the corner and score another good team try.  The second match was again very entertaining and closely fought, this time the eventual winners being Wells.

Under 10+11 12/4/2015

Away to Chard..

Tor went into their last game of the season in full spirits and they certainly put on a show for the traveling support. Tor started much the brighter and after a string of good early passes Olly Sturgess ran over the line but was denied by a foot in touch. It didn't take long for him to put Tor in front though, Chard had the ball until they ran into Elijah Davidson with a crunching tackle, this gave Tor possession which ended in Sturgess scoring. The score was soon doubled after strong forward play by Bethany Norris and Ronnie Wilson-Stone. Luke Rapley ripped the ball from a maul, spun away and ran down the line to score before Chard pulled one back. From the kick off Sturgess ran straight though the Chard team for Tors third. Chard scored their second before Tor debutant Charlie Shave marked his first game with a brilliant solo try. The second half started in a similar vain to the first. Sam Bolton and Luke Andrews' weaving runs had been unsettling Chard all game and matched with the tackling and endeavour of Oscar Pearce and Abi Londal big gaps began to appear. Barnaby Hitt took full advantage of this picking up the ball in midfield and touching down in the corner. Will Slade's efforts out wide were then rewarded by Charlie Shave scoring his second of the day and Luke Rapley rounded off a 7-4 victory for Tor after great turnover play from Alexander Gilmore.

Under 10 & 11 - 22.03.2015

This week we had some fun with the tackle bags. All the players lined up taking it in turns to tackle a dragged tackle tube and pull Rob and Deans arms out of their sockets at the same time (Abi and Bethany!!) Charlie walked away with the player of the week trophy, since joining he's shown a great team mentality, focus, is full of energy and has fitted into the squad like he's been a Tor player for years!! Well done to him.

We had another new player arrive called Declan who's looking forward to getting some game time under his belt. Sadly he couldn't play the last game without a gum shield but he did a cracking job running the lines with Rob during the big game at the end and made some critical decisions for Josh as the TMO!!

Great work guys and gals!!

Rob, Josh and Dean

U10&11 training - 15.03.2015
Another great turn out at training today on a chilly morning. Great to see Bennett return and two more new faces joined in with the fun today as the squad welcomed Charlie and Elijah. Charlie's all round game was brilliant, a natural sportsman and even the coaches wouldn't want to be on the end of one of Elijah's tackles!!

Player of the week went to Sam so a big well done to him. His focus and effort in training over the last few weeks has not gone unnoticed and he does it all with a smile on his face!!

Also a massive well done to the whole squad who have welcomed the new faces and really embraced the values of the club. It's never easy in a new environment and you have all gone out of your way to support, help and involve these guys, you are all a credit to the club.

Lastly, we all hope Dean smells a bit better now after his swim in the ditch!!

Look forward to training next week already!!

Rob, Josh and Dean

"Great to see so many faces for 10s/11s training again on Sunday, both old and new. Hope Bennet enjoyed his first taste of Rugby at Tor, we'd love to see you back again this Sunday and great to see Bethany back who's great effort in training saw her pick up the player of the week award, a really hard decision to make as everyone trained at 110% and had a great time!

Thanks again to Malc for volunteering his morning and helping provide a great session, they all loved it as always!!

Good luck to all those competing in the tag tournament at Tor RFC, go and have lots of fun!! The coaches from Tor will be there to support and cheer you all on!

Rob, Josh and Dean"
