Welcome to the first instalment of “Chairman’s
Chat” or Chairman’s “Tat” depending on your point of view!
These monthly round ups are designed to keep all members
informed on what’s going on in the Minis and juniors and what we aim to achieve –
Firstly welcome to all new members it’s great to have you
along for what promises to be another season of building on the great achievements’
made in the last
We have good numbers up to and including U12s – unfortunately
we just haven’t managed to sustain our u13s to u16s so for this season we need
to focus on the groups we have- making sure we retain them and bring them
through the Juniors section staying together as a team to be ready for playing
for Tor senior squads ...these guys are
the future of Tor rugby club
U11s and U12s
Great progress has been made on the training pitch which the
under 11s put into practice in their first match –dominating upfront in a
recent encounter with Wells U11s but not quite having the edge in the final attack..This was worked on this
weekend and these guys will be fully prepared for the Cheddar match- as a club
we want to engage this group(u12s and u11s) as much as possible and like I said
above retain them through the ranks to senior squads- that includes Mums and
Dads being part of the club! So ideas please trips away, tours, visits’ to premiership
clubs and the like – the club will do everything it can to provide these or
make them more accessible - but as ever a volunteer to help organise these
things won’t go amiss!
U9s and U10S
Wow! Numbers in the U9s keep going up! Seems they like the
idea of full contact for the first time ! The under 10s are now fully
contesting for the ball at rucks and mauls – some great determination being
displayed in training –roll on their first match again at Cheddar.
U7sand U8s
Numbers again in these groups are well up- keeping “ Big Jim”
busy getting them ready for the
challenge of full contact in the 9s and 10s –again these guys will have their first
matches next week at Cheddar
U5s and U6s
I spent a while watching them this weekend..What can I say
organised mayhem! Christian, Stuart and his team doing a brilliant job with
these guys –constantly running active and engaged throughout the session – and the
noise! Lots of smiles laughing fun and different “rugby ball”games !
Girls squad
We are very keen to have
girls in all age groups- when they reach U12s they are no longer permitted to
play in mixed teams- so this week I got all the girls together from the U9s
upwards including the u13s girls that have stuck with us..the idea being these
girls will go on to form Tor Ladies squad in the future, this week’s session was
about getting together and having a bit of a fun game for the last ½ hour of
normal training -oh and letting Isabelle demonstrate her awesome tackling
ability that has stopped many a boy in their tracks! Next home training session
we will concentrate more on the age groups with the older girls acting as mentors -again
this will be for the last half hour of “normal”
squad training ..Parents please spread the word that we welcome girls of all
ages and abilities
